Hoary marmot

The Hoary Marmot is essentially a big squirrel that lives in the mountains of Northwestern North America. It is found at the tree line and feeds on grasses. The majority of the year is spent hibernating in burrows under the rocks that it is regularly seen sitting on.

They are also known as “Whistlers” for their high pitched warning call when they see predators. Towns and even mountains have been named after their call.
