Mountain goat
Mountain goat
Despite the minor technicality of not being a “true goat”(they probably feel a bit like the demoted planet Pluto), they are still pretty enterprising creatures! They nevertheless, sport beards and a winter coat thick enough to keep them warm in -50 Celcius temperatures and winds up to 100mph as they adeptly make their way along steep cliff faces and rocky areas of North America. Most of the time is spent at high elevations, although summertime provides photography opportunities such as these images, when they migrate down to mineral licks. These mineral licks meet nutritional requirements not met at the higher elevations.
